Definition: A Web cast is a web based distribution system of audio and/or video content, that lets viewers subscribe and automatically receive new content either via download or streaming media.
Check out our Web Cast Diagram

Web Cast vs. Pod Cast: Web Casts and Pod Casts are essentially one and the same in concept, but quite different otherwise.

A Pod Cast is defined as being available on the I-Tunes Pod Cast library, or any other pod catcher software such as Yahoo-PodCast(BETA), podcastalley.com, Odeo.com etc. The formats and technical specifications have to conform to the RSS podcast guidlines.

A QuickRelease Web Cast on the other hand is defined as making your Web cast not only available on I-Tunes, but essentially to everyone connected to the internet. We base your web cast around a website, your existing one or a spin off micro site/page. Check out this sample. Note that the micro page contains the ability for the viewer to stream, download and/or subscribe to the content offered. On top of that, the audience gets valuable background information via text, images and video clips.

Pod Catchers work in similar ways than Google. They search websites on a daily basis, scanning for audio and video content and record specific embedded codes that list the content, topics, and media formats. Each Pod Catcher has their own directory listing where customers then subscribe to your web cast. Each time you change or upload new content or episodes, your subscribers automatically receive these updates. The actual underlying code is called RSS.

RSS stands for Real Simple Syndication and was developed to help automate the subscription process of online audio/video content feeds. Now RSS is the standard code that all Pod Catchers use to find, sort and categorize Web Cast content.

Web Interface:
Beyond letting people subscribe via Pod Catchers, the QuickRelease Web Cast offers direct viewing of the video content on your website. Users can stream each episode right from their computer or download the content in various formats such as QuickTime and Windows Media.
Other web interface features can include:
- General background info about your content and products
- Links
- Surveys
- Feedback
- Voting
- Online chat
- User account creations
